The Economy, Family Finances and the Future of a College Education

The economy is likely to reach an historic benchmark in July: The longest economic expansion in the modern era. We’ll first look at the immediate prospects for the economy and family incomes of college age students.  We’ll then step back to take a longer look at the future of a liberal arts education in an economy shaped by the rise of automation and the aging of the population. (The Census Bureau predicts the number of people 65 years of age and older will outnumber those age 18 and under by 2035–for the first time in U.S. history) Hint: The value of a liberal arts education and the opportunities to seize will increase.
